Should I Take Law Post Graduate Courses? As the world is becoming more futuristic, knowledge and information imparted through conventional education are playing a vital part in its functioning. Yet these studies are done differently in different parts of the world. One such study is the study of law. The differences in law courses varied greatly from country to country. A major example can be found when comparing the US and its international counterparts. The study of law in the US is far more integrated and concise than in any other part of the world. Legal educators here prefer a far more participatory approach while dealing with students. The practical method of education gets more emphasis than the theoretical one and this can be easily explained by the "case-study" approach that deals with the case-book giving real examples to act as guidelines for students or even the Socratic method where the lecturer asks a series of questions and intentionally makes the student respond accurately. Class participation is considered to be pivotal by many lecturers. In countries other than the US greater attention is given to reading assignments. In the US reading assignments range from fifteen to sixty pages per class. In the US law school classes are taken as lecture courses and small seminar courses. Lecture courses generally undertake the "Socratic Method" but seminar courses indulge in a more in-depth study of a particular topic. Despite classes being integrated, research and writing is considered to be vastly important in the legal education in the US whereas small papers have to be prepared for seminars, monthly. Despite graduate study of law being highly gratifying both in terms of mental satisfaction and financial remuneration, it isn't easy at all. Students have to encounter- fierce competition and truckloads of preparatory reading materials. There are a couple of preparatory courses offered by various agencies. With the help of these agencies this preparatory phase is simplified. These courses are generally offered during the summer time and are designed to help the aspirant pick up the nuances of the legal world. For personal implementation of a successful career possession of certain mental attributes are necessary. First and foremost the student needs to have excellent argumentative and analytical skills. Secondly he should possess a keen eye for details, and to make all the above possible he needs to have a visibly good command over the language and should have precision in both reading and writing. |
